We Use Eco-Friendly Paints & Products

In many kinds of paints and finishes, a process known as ‘off-gassing’ can occur in which volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released into the air. This can take place for up to 8 years after the initial application. This process has been recognized by government agencies to be one of the reasons why indoor air can be three times as polluted as the outdoor air, and it is considered one of the top five hazards to human health.
Considering these risks, Eco Islands Painting has made the decision to use exclusively zero or low VOC paints apart from primers to apply to exteriors. These are oil based, which assures the integrity of the paint adhesion on bare surfaces. We also actively keep informed on new eco-friendly products manufactured by the painting industry, and whenever possible we source and recommend alternative paints for specific project needs in cases where local or mainstream paint suppliers can’t meet our needs.
A recent example was a request from a client who was concerned about her infant crawling on the outside deck coated with standard paint. Even a VOC-free paint is still an industrial chemical by-product. In this case, we recommended a product from the Milk Paint® Company which is entirely organic and made from milk protein, lime, clay and earth pigment, safe even for children’s toys.
